According to a recent New York Times article, in order to understand the obstacles women face in their career, one must understand the psychological concept homophily, as people tend to connect with and support those who are like themselves, while people starting out tend to do what they see others like themselves doing. Historically, women tend to start out outside of established networks and tend not to get the access and the opportunities that are crucial for their career early on. In this workshop, speakers will offer their insights about how to overcome this invisible barrier due to cognitive bias and share their stories about building diverse teams in fast growing companies. This workshop is kindly sponsored by Ginkgo Bioworks.
