Rick Barrows, Ph.D. is the founder Aquatic Feed Technologies a consulting company focused on the development of sustainable and alternative aquaculture feeds. He also serves as Chief Scientific Officer of the Feed Innovation Network aimed to accelerate adoption of alternative feed ingredients for aquaculture. Rick was the Lead Scientist and Nutritionist for the Trout Grains Project of the Agricultural Research Service/USDA for the last 13 years where he focused on the development of fishmeal and fish oil free diets for fish. His previous work with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service entailed feed development for all life stages of threatened and endangered animals as well as fish species. Rick has over 130 peer-reviewed publications through out his 28 years of innovative feed research. Some of the rewards he received are: Selected Member of the Aquaculture Protein Center in Norway (2008), Outstanding Commercialization Success from the Federal Lab Consortium for Technology Transfer (2011), Excellence in Aquaculture award from the Illinois Soybean Association and the Senior Research Scientist of the Year Award (2012), PWA from the Agricultural Research Service (2012), Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from the U.S. Chapter of World Aquaculture (2016).
