Dr. Bastian has over 25 years of international leadership experience in leading life science & healthcare corporations serving governmental, academic, biomedical, diagnostic, pharmaceutical, biopharmaceutical, and applied research laboratories and their companies with innovative products and service solutions.

Dr. Bastian earned his diploma in biology (biochemistry) from Georg-August University Goettingen, and holds a Ph.D. in molecular biology pursued at the Max-Planck Institute for Biophysical Chemistry in Goettingen, Germany.

Today, Dr. Bastian leads the Synthetic Biology & Sample Preparation business as Vice President & General Manager at Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, with revenues of $18 billion and more than 55,000 employees in 50 countries, out of Carlsbad, California, USA. Previously, Dr. Bastian served as Managing Director and Chief Commercial Officer at Indivumed, in Hamburg, Germany, and as Vice President of Global Marketing, Business Development & Strategy Research Biotech and member of the leadership team at Sigma-Aldrich in St. Louis, Missouri, USA. Prior to that, he served as Executive Vice President of the Life Science Services business and member of the Senior Executive Management Team at SGS in Geneva, Switzerland. Dr. Bastian joined SGS after more than 11 years with QIAGEN in Hilden, Germany, where he was a member of the Executive Steering Committee and held various management positions, most recently as Vice President Molecular Diagnostics, Vice President Global Strategic Marketing, Vice President PreAnalytiX.

Dr. Bastian is an alumnus from the Max-Planck-Network and the Columbia Business School, NYC, NY, USA.
